Cran-Apple Pie

Pastry for a 9-inch two crust pie
1 1/2 cups cranberries
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 1/2 cups pared, cored, and chopped apples
1 cup sugar
4 Tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup corn syrup
1/4 cup water
2 Tablespoons butter

In a saucepan, mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Over low heat,
add corn syrup and water. Cook, stirring until mixture thickens
and begins to boil. Add cranberries and cook until the skins pop.
Cool. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line pie plate with bottom
pastry. Combine apples and nuts and add to cranberries. Spoon
into pie shell. Dot with butter. Arrange top crust. Bake at 425
degrees for 45 minutes.
